The Wheat Festival began in 1900 as the Sumner County Jubilee and Wheat Carnival to celebrate a record breaking wheat crop. Today, we still claim the title of Wheat Capital of the World! This festival has continued to be a tradition in Wellington for the past 113 years and is now adopted as the State’s official post-harvest celebration; the Kansas Wheat Festival is the highlight of Wellington and Sumner County’s summer activities. The Kansas Wheat Festival promises to be bigger and better and more focused on agriculture and the Kansas Wheat Farmer than ever before. Beginning on Wednesday, July 10th, there will be five days of fun and celebration running through Sunday, July 14th. The Ottaway Carnival runs Wednesday through Saturday evenings. Kansas Wheat Festival Buttons are still only $2 each and Button Drawings will be held each evening for great prizes!! On behalf of all of our great sponsors and supporters, we invite you to come join the fun and help us celebrate our 113 year old tradition as Wheat Capital of the World!
