Lake Recreation

The Wellington City Lake is located 6 miles west of Wellington on US160 Highway and 4 miles south on Anson Road. The Lake has a surface area of approximately 674 acres of water and 10 miles of shoreline. The Lake provides a variety of recreational opportunities including fishing, boating, and camping. A permit is required for camping and/or recreational use. Current insurance coverage is required for boats and jet skis used on the lake. Channel Cat, Flathead, Crappie, Walleye, Saugeye, Largemouth Bass and Wiper have done well in the Lake. A handicap accessible fishing pier is available on the west side of the Lake with a fish cleaning area nearby. Several boat ramps are located around the Lake. Boating and water skiing are frequent activities on the Lake.

The Lake offers nearly 200 camp sites with electric and water hook-ups. Primitive camping is allowed in designated areas. Shelter houses are located at various locations around the Lake. A Swimming/Beach area is in the southwest area of the Lake. Public Restrooms are available on the west side and the east side of the Lake and both have showers available. The Lake Office offers concessions and some grocery items along with bagged ice. Wireless Internet is available for some areas of the Lake through Sumner Communications. The rental of duck blinds is available during the Fall hunting season. Contact the Lake Office for details.

The Lake Department is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Lake Recreation Area. It is a sub-department under Public Works. Lake Department staffing consists of a Supervisor and two personnel. There are also seasonal positions in the summer.
