Wellington is the county seat for Sumner County in south central Kansas and is 19 miles north of the
Kansas-Oklahoma State line. Wellington is located 23 miles south of Wichita, KS, and 135 miles north of
Oklahoma City, OK. The area of the city is 8.19 square miles.
Wellington is accessible by Interstate 35, which is just 2 miles east of the city. US-81 and US-160
Highways intersect in the city. Wellington Municipal Airport is just north of the city and provides a 5,200
feet runway for smaller airplanes and small private jets. For commercial passenger air travel the Dwight
D. Eisenhower National Airport is nearby, in Wichita. A Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway
transcontinental line passes through Wellington as well as a main north-south line of the Union Pacific
Railroad.
