The City of Wellington Compost Site opened in March 1997 to help relieve the amount of debris that was going to the landfill.
The operation of the Compost Site is funded out of the Sanitation operations budget. The site sets on 24 acres. It is staffed by one part-time attendant, assisted by Street Department personnel who turn the compost, push up tree limbs and maintain the grounds. Each year there are about 40 tons of composted grass and leaves available for the public to use in gardens and flower beds. The City allows one pickup load per resident until it is gone.
ALL LOADS SHOULD BE COVERED OR TIED DOWN TO PREVENT LITTERING.
Please help keep our streets clean by picking up limbs that have been dropped on route to the Compost Site.
NO CHARGE FOR DISPOSAL OF YARD WASTE – grass clippings, leaves and small plant trimmings, a separate pile or area is available for the disposal of tree limbs, brush and ashes.
