Wellington Lake Algae Bloom

All water activities are currently prohibited at 

Wellington Lake until further notice due to an algae bloom.

Staff has been monitoring potential algae blooms for several days and yesterday noticed it at several locations around the lake.  We have notified KDHE and they are scheduled to conduct testing Monday, June 12th.  City staff have placed several signs around the lake advising the public of the presence of algae.  For the safety of the public, all water activities are prohibited at the lake until the type of algae present has been confirmed.  Additionally, the City Water Production Supervisor was notified immediately and sent water samples for lab testing.  The results of that test do not warrant any changes to the treatment process currently, but they are working with the State to adjust the treatment process as needed to ensure safe drinking water.
