Re: EAST 160 RESURFACING PROJECT
The City of Wellington, utilizing grant funding from KDOT, has hired Pearson Construction to do a resurfacing project on US-160 (East 16th Street) from the roundabout to Woodlawn Ave. This consists of milling off the top 2” of asphalt surface, sealing underlying cracks and placing a new 2” asphalt driving surface. This project is scheduled to begin Thursday, July 25, 2024. Unfortunately, this will once again require traffic cones and reduced lanes of traffic. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times, as well as access to all homes and businesses. Any work directly in front of entrances will be for short periods of time and the contractor will open the access up within just a few minutes. Businesses with more than one entrance will have direct access to at least one entrance at all times.
Unfortunately, this immediately follows the bridge project but the traffic control will be much less prohibitive. Turning movements to entrances across the highway will not be prohibited, unless workers are actively in that area. In other words, you will not need to be on the same side of the highway as the business to enter their property. In order to maintain uninterrupted traffic, this will require a change in driving lanes up to 4 different times over the next two months. Please be aware the contractor may need to stop traffic for short periods of time and use flaggers to do so.
