The Sanitation Department operates the refuse collection service for the City and is responsible for the
operation of the Transfer Station and the Construction and Demolition Landfill. Residential refuse collection is
made on Tuesday through Thursday on various routes in the City. Commercial collection is made on
Monday through Saturday. Collection days may be adjusted due to City observed holidays. Public notice
will be disseminated regarding any adjustments.
The Sanitation Department will not collect large items (mattresses, appliances, furniture) with the regular refuse collection routes. Please contact the Landfill at 620-326-5951 to make special arrangements for these types of items to be picked up. There may be a charge for the collection of such items.
If you are unable to haul your yard waste (leaves & lawn clippings) to the Compost Site, you may purchase yard waste tags from the Utility Office located at City Hall (317 S. Washington).

- Maximum bag size: 33 gallons
- Maximum bag weight: 40 pounds
- $1.00/each or six (6) for $5.00.
- One tag required per bag.
- Sanitation crew will collect tagged bags with weekly trash service.

The Sanitation Department is a sub-department under Public Works. Staffing consists of a supervisor, seven (7) sanitation collection workers and three (3) staff at the Transfer Station/Landfill.
